Apple and Cisco finally agree to iPhone name sharing
Cisco's lawsuit against Apple has been rumbling on for a little while, ever since Steve Jobs announced the iPhone without clearing the use of the name with the trademark holder.
Now at long last, an agreement seems to have been reached, which allows both companies to use the iPhone name, with all pending actions over the trademark being dismissed.
Though the rest of the details are confidential, it's likely that because the two companies have different products (Cisco makes VoIP phones and Apple is making a mobile phone) there was no real conflict.
The two companies will also 'explore opportunities for interoperability' - whatever that means.
It's hard to comment further on this at present, as there are so few details, but the main thing that we're concerned about has been resolved: the Apple iPhone will remain the Apple iPhone.
Phew!
