Apple iPhone: Top 5 features
It's quite hard limiting a post to just five great iPhone features, because there are so many great features that we're looking forward to. Here's my attempt:
1. Looks (and feels) amazing
Whatever you think of the feature set, and the chances of your fat fingers destroying that shiny big screen, the iPhone looks amazing, and it probably feels amazing in the palm of your hand, too. It's sleek, curvy, shiny, and sexy, with on-screen icons and buttons that just ooze and drip class. The three in-built sensors will make that experience even better.
2. OS X
Yes, I know it's not Symbian or Windows Mobile 6, but the iPhone's version of OS X is a world-class operating system that will run 'desktop-class applications'. Certainly great news for Apple Mac fans that have longed for a home-grown solution that lets them use the desktop apps they love on the move.
3. Gestures
Whilst no-one but Steve, a few top bods at Apple, and some lucky journos have yet got their hands on the iPhone, all the demonstrations so far show a pretty slick 'gesturing' system for controlling the iPhone. Sweeping and pinching to scroll and zoom look particularly cool. A lot of research has been completed, and with Apple's well-known ability to produce great user interfaces, expect something special on this one.
4. Multimedia capabilities
The iPhone will build upon audio and video innovation found in the iPod, and take it to a whole new level, making it a classy entertainment device. Whilst so seem almost offended by a phone that does multimedia, I think it's a great selling point.
5. Smart contacts and voicemail
After all, this is a phone: Finding and calling contacts, setting up conference calls, and visual voicemeail that allows you to see your messages rather than having to run through them sequentially, are all cool features that raise the bar on how you make, take, and organise calls.
