Avi Greengart gives positive analysis of the iPhone
Avi Greengart, an analyst from Current Analysis who specialises in the mobile telephone market, has been interviewed by Inside Digital Media, and gives some very favourable feedback on the iPhone.
Watch the whole video below, and read on for the highlights:
Here are Avi's main points:
* 10m iPhones sold in 2008 probably isn't a bad estimate - the Motorola RAZR sold 5m in its first 9 months - particularly given the Apple fan base.
* The iPhone gives a much easier-to-use user experience compared to existing smartphones.
Positive aspects:
* The 'wow' factor
* Gorgeous form
* Great user interface and gestures: scrolling, smooth and rich transitions
* Widescreen video iPod
* Mobile email
* Desktop class browser
Negative aspects:
* Price may be prohibitive
* No removable battery
* No hard buttons - have to look at screen before doing anything - this may not be a problem, though
* No 3G
* Distribution limited
* Durability of the phone is a total unknown
Despite these negative points, Avi is very positive about the iPhone. Because it's a mobile entertainment centre rather than just a mobile phone, the price is more justifiable.
It's good to get a positive independent review from someone who has had some hands-on time with the phone as well as watched Steve Jobs' keynote.
