Rumour (kinda): Cingular iPhone exclusive just two weeks. Err... no
It's a shame that iPhonic's first rumour has to be such a poor excuse for one (no, that one about chunky knitwear wasn't a rumour) but it fills a happy five minutes...
Cult of Mac has published the 'rumour' that "Dave" (shame on you, Dave!) has exclusively told them. Read on for the laugh...
I was talking to a T-Mobile employee yesterday and he claimed that they will have the iPhone 2 weeks after the release. Cingular’s exclusive apparently lasts only 2 Weeks!!For the hundreds of thousands willing to change suppliers when the iPhone ships this is both big and good news.
... The fellow was a T-mobile agent/employee and very excited about the news. He was willing to pre-sign me for the iPhone. That all I’ve got but he was convinced.
Now I'm not sure if it's CoM's fault for publishing this, or others for prolonging it, but this statement doesn't actually say that the Cingular exclusivity deal with Apple lasts jus two weeks. Wishful thinking (from other operators and Cingular haters) can make it say that, but here's the logical interpretation:
I was talking to a T-Mobile employee yesterday and he claimed that they will have the iPhone 2 weeks after the release FROM CINGULAR.Cingular’s exclusive apparently lasts only 2 Weeks!!
Yep, when the exclusive tie-in period ends around 2009, other operators will be able to get their hands on it, after two weeks. Not that those 2 weeks are likely to make much difference.
Anyone thinking the Cingular deal itself is only going to last for 2 weeks is just crazy. Dream on.
And don't be too hard on Dave.
