Battery life and screen durability could be key factors for iPhone
Given that the iPhone is, to some extent, a highly souped-up iPod, it's not surprising that some are concerned about its battery life and the durability and scratch-resistance of the screen.
Reevoo has done some research with current iPod and Creative product owners, and found that iPod owners were generally less happy with the battery life, particularly when compared with the advertised maximum.
On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being most satisfied, iPod owners gave an average of 7.2 out of 10, whilst Creative players scored 8.01 out of 10.
The iPhone, claiming 5 hours of talk time, and having no user-removable battery, may frustrate heavy phone users.
Apple will also need to ensure that their touch screen is of the highest quality, as cracked and scratched screens on some of the newer iPods has angered customers. However, given that the iPhone's screen is designed to be touched, I'm sure resiliency has been factored into the design.
Richard Anson, CEO of Reevoo, said, "Steve Jobs has launched what is seemingly Apple’s newest and most impressive product to date. The iPhone is a gorgeous design but sleek and sexy features aside, the iPhone may not ultimately address consumer needs. We've analysed hundreds of customer ratings of battery life for ipod and Creative mp3 players; the ipod scores are significantly lower. Reviews mentioning poor battery life are also common. As the iPhone has an even shorter battery life – up to 5 hours for talk, video and browsing and 16 hours for music – it’s hard to believe this won’t be an issue once the honeymoon period is over."
We'll have to wait and see what the reality is. Could Apple have under-promised on features and so ultimately come out as over-achieving?
