Best place to profit from iPhone hype? eBay
Thongs aside, the best place to make a quick buck from the iPhone's pre-release hype is eBay.
Analysis by HammerTap suggests that the average price for something iPhone-related is $35, and reckon that sales of iPhone paraphernalia to date has totalled a whopping $18,000.
Products range from the virtual - domain names and email addresses - to the tangible - T-shirts and pictures.
“Whatever is selling now is just a glimpse of what is to come,” says Jen Cano from HammerTap. “Some sellers will make a lot of money on iPhone accessories after the phone is released.”
Quite how Apple will view some of these products - or indeed how eBay should be viewing them as many of them are likely to be infringing trademarks - isn't clear. Perhaps quick-thinking sellers are making their money now before one or other companies clamp down on these auctions.
There's money in hype.
