Could we see games on the iPhone?
Mac Informant has an interesting piece speculating whether we'll see games on the iPhone.
Apple have dipped their toe in the water when it comes to games, selling iPod-friendly fare via iTunes. The Mac computer platform is regularly mocked for its lack of games, though the Apple TV has been touted as a possible games server.
The iPhone, though, could make a great, if unconventional, portable games console. Though it doesn't have any buttons, the GUI could be tailored to fit any game's control requirements.
There could also be interesting possibilities with the iPhone's current, and possible future, sensors:
Sure, the iPhone's design would be less than ideal for gaming as we know it today. However, with the iPhone's hardware, the possibilities are endless. Right now, I have a DS + Wii hybrid running through my head. A multi-touch touchscreen, and an accelerometer. With some Apple innovation, I don't see why they couldn't make it happen. And with multi-touch, turning part of the iPhone's screen into a couple of modular buttons would be very possible.
If Apple were to allow third parties to develop games, the iPhone could become an interesting console.
