Which current mobile manufacturer is most at risk from the iPhone?
MacDailyNews has published the results of interesting analysis from the Bank of America and Morgan Stanley who both claim that several mobile manufacturers who appeal to the general consumer market could be threatened by the iPhone.
They single out Palm as potentially the biggest loser, not only because of a similar feature set, but also because many current Palm users are Apple enthusiasts. Treo owners are twice as likely to own an iPod or a Mac, the Morgan Stanley survey suggested. Perhaps this is why Palm's CEO has trashed the iPhone.
RIM is unlikely to be so badly affected because it is far more business-oriented than the iPhone, but those companies who focus on Internet connectivity and multimedia could be at risk. A Bank of America researcher said that no current phone designer has the same devoted fan base, a significant rival to iTunes, or Apple's skill at crafting a great user interface.
Nokia are likely to be best placed to compete with the iPhone, and so least at risk.
