Arrogant analyst agrees with Microsoft: iPhone no good for enterprise
With the rumour (note: rumour) that AT&T may push the iPhone towards business customers, Ken Dulaney, an analyst at Gartner, has said that it would be a big mistake for business users to invest in an iPhone.
"Building a phone is one of the most difficult things to do," he said.
Hmm, he obviously doesn't have much of a clue about the world's professions, does he?
He criticised the iPhone for not having a removable battery, but quite honestly, please tell me how many times you've carried a spare battery for your phone around with you, and used it?
And the arrogance? Well, downright danger, to be honest. He criticises the iPhone because "it's difficult to use whilst driving".
Come on Ken. No-one should be dialling on any phone whilst they're driving, even though it's obviously still legal where you are. It's a weak, and dangerous, criticism of one of the iPhone's key selling points.
Ken's not on the ball when it comes to Apple computers, either. Apparently, enterprises will decide against the iPhone for the same reason as they don't use Macs - because there's more software available. Thing is, Ken, Macs are now Intel based and can run Windows, so that's a weak comparison. In any case, do business users really need to add lots of new software if the phone they're using does everything they need already?
Everyone's entitled to their opinion, of course, but dismissing out of hand the iPhone as a business tool seems short-sighted to me.
