iPhone's main competition: laptops and UMPCs
Financial analyst Sramana Mitra has an interesting theory: the iPhone's main competitors are not other mobile phones, but Windows laptop makers.
"Thanks to Moore's Law and Apple's decision to cram OSX into the device, the iPhone will become an increasingly capable computing device over the new few iterations," reports WIRED on Mitra's viewpoint.
In a couple of years time, the OS X-laden iPhone may have all the mobile computing functionality people need.
It's a great thought, and as an iPhone fanatic you'd expect me to agree wholeheartedly with it.
I can't see the first two or three generations of iPhone doing it, but given that the iPhone is heralded as the beginning of Apple's foray into ultra mobile devices, that could be a distinct medium-term possibility.
