Apple to create an "iPhone nano"?

Speculation is rising based on a set of patents filed by Apple that suggest that a future version of the iPhone could be the size of an iPod nano, and feature a dual-sided display with advanced multi-layered interface.

The patent suggests that a nano-sized device would have a full screen for viewing on one side, with a touchscreen interface screen on the other. This screen could show different interface elements depending on the function, such as a keypad, a music track selection, and so on.

Such a device would actually represent quite a departure from the first iPhone, and may appeal to those who like a device with a small form-factor but still oozing with Apple goodness.
