Future iPhone to support Flash devices?
It seems that the iPhone will support Flash devices, according to a recent job posting.
The "iPhone Flash File System Engineer" will be based in Cupertino, and work in Apple's CoreOS organisation.
Responsibilities of the job will include the development of device drivers for Flash and associated file systems, and requires experience in developing drivers for Flash devices.
Quite what this means for the future of the iPhone isn't clear. It could mean that future generations of iPhone will sport larger, more efficient flash memory, beefing up the maximum 8GB available in the first model.
The reason I don't believe that this is referring to Flash software support is twofold. Firstly, the job requirement states that it will include "development of device drivers" — you don't develop device drivers for software.
Secondly, Apple has already embedded Adobe Flash functionality in the Safari web browser, which is a core component of the iPhone.
It also won't be anything to do with the first iPhone launch, as that launches in June and the job ad only went live yesterday.
