Shiny iPhone Survey Results: Part 5: Network issues
Our UK iPhone survey asked respondents about which mobile network they thought was most likely to scoop the iPhone, and whether they would switch providers, if necessary, to get one.
We asked "Assuming Apple sticks to a single mobile network in each market, which UK network do you think should get the iPhone?"
Nearly one-third of respondents (29.8%) said that they'd expect O2 to get the iPhone. Orange got 22.6% of the vote, followed by Vodafone with 21.4%.
Worryingly, if sources are accurate and to be believed, European favourite T-Mobile only got 11% of the vote, marginally ahead of Virgin with 10.3%.
Asked if they would switch network provider in order to get an iPhone, 26% said they would, with 38% saying they wouldn't. 36% were undecided.
Of those who had previously asked that they'd definitely be getting an iPhone, 42.9% said they'd switch provider, with 28.6% not switching, and 28.6% unsure.
Not surprisingly, of the small percentage of those who are definitely getting an iPhone as a replacement for their current mobile phone, 75% said they'd switch provider, with 14.3% saying they wouldn't.
And 48.3% said they'd break their existing contract to do so, compared to 42.9% of all those definitely getting an iPhone, and just 12.3% of the whole group.
Of those "seriously considering" the iPhone, 31.2% would consider switching provider, with 14.5% willing to break their contract.
So, as if it needed saying, the majority those that are definitely getting an iPhone will do whatever it takes to get it. The rest, though, are far more reserved, and as we've said before, and as some analysts agree, the single network policy may restrict Apple's potential market.
