T-Mobile's Wing: First US handset with WIndows Mobile 6 could contend for iPhone crown
T-Mobile has unveiled its Wing smart phone, claiming to be the first US mobile phone to feature Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 operating system. It's been developed by the Taiwan company High Tech Computer.
Its specifications bear a striking resemblance to the iPhone: GSM connectivity, Wi-Fi, 2 megapixel camera, 2.8 inch colour touchscreen, music and video playback, and Bluetooth.
It features a fully functional QWERTY keyboard which slides out not dissimilarly to the Nokia N95
What will appeal to those who need Microsoft connectivity is its ability to connect to Office, Outlook, and Live services — something that Microsoft is only too keen to point out.
Operating systems aside, it's hard to see this phone doing anytthing better than the iPhone will. It doesn't outdo Apple's offering on communications options, unless you specifically need Windows Mobile 6.
Even so, it's what other mobile network operators in the US are going to have to do if they're to compete with AT&T's iPhone exclusive. Verizon may be teaming up with LG, so T-Mobile also need attention grabbing phones.
The Wing's suggested retail price is $499.99, but with rebates, that price comes down to $299.99.
