YouTube vidoes will be available for iPhone streaming
Apple has today announced that a selection of YouTube videos will be available for streaming to the iPhone via Wi-Fi or EDGE network.
YouTube has begun to encode their videos using the H.264 format required by the iPhone - remember that Flash isn't yet an option for the iPhone's Safari browser.
By launch day next Friday, YouTube will have converted over 10,000 videos, with more being added each week.
Ambitiously, Apple state that the full YouTube catalogue will be available in H.264 format from this autumn. Given how many new videos are being added all the time, I'd be very impressed if that happens. We'll see.
Though some people have dismissed the idea of YouTube on the iPhone, saying that, "the iPhone has enough launch advantages. It does not need another that debases the device," I think it's a smart move.
YouTube is a very popular service, and it also shows the close alliance between Google and Apple. I wonder how many other companies Google would have agreed to convert its entire user-generated library for?

I'm surprised there hasn't been a cross mention of a new icon on the iPhone's interface. If you look at the recently released pictures of the iPhone in its new charging dock it shows a TV set icon to finally fill that missing gap.
