Consumer group calls for Apple to provide free battery upgrades
In a letter to AT&T and Apple, the Foundation for Taxpayers and Consumer Rights has urged the companies to make it very clear that the iPhone must be returned to Apple in order for the battery to be replaced, and that in doing so, all user data on the iPhone is removed.
Apple has claimed that the battery will perform well up to between 300 and 400 charges, which for a phone that will probably be charged every day, means that users could be left with a substandard battery in just one year's time.
A replacement battery will cost a whopping $85.95 plus shipping to Apple. As if owners haven't paid enough already.
Users are unlikely to be able to replace the battery themselves, as it's soldered to the iPhone's logic board.
I sense more consumer discord coming if consumers have to pay nearly $100 each year to maintain their iPhone's battery.
