iPhone blamed for losing Americans $17,670 in... retirement savings
The story has to be more about dragging readers looking for iPhone news to TheStreet.com web site (to which I'm now referring more) than about sensible analysis.
Apparently, the true cost of the iPhone to the average American consumer is $17,670.
That's because a 30-year-old iPhone customer who hasn't maxed out their 401(k) retirement plan, who spent the two-year $2,720 iPhone and tariff costs instead of investing it, could've made $17,670 over 35 years.
Yes folks, millions of Americans could be retiring with less money, and it's all Apple's fault.
Or, perhaps, any other company who sells something that costs $2,720 over two years.
Obviously, it's better not to enjoy life at all now, so that retirement plans are "maxed out", so that there's a bit more money later on in life to relax and look back on what a boring life you had saving for retirement.
