Analyst expects Apple to launch wireless music service for iPhone OTA downloads
Analysts at Pike & Fischer, who recently completed a study of the US mobile broadband market, believe that, in order for Apple to remain competitive, they will need to launch a wireless music service so as to allow iPhone users to download music over the air onto the device. This could be a revamped version of iTunes.
"Consumer expectations will advance to the point where they will eschew reliance on a PC and cable to get content onto their iPhones and other portable devices," said Tim Deal, Pike & Fischer senior analyst. "Apple will therefore be forced to offer over-the-air downloads to remain competitive."
AT&T has already launched a music download service but it's not compatible with the iPhone.
In addition, they predict that Verizon will launch a product that will force Apple to reduce the price of future iPhones.
