Apple's iPhone software update erases hacks - there's a surprise
As predicted, Apple's latest iPhone software update undoes anything those ne'er-do-well hackers have installed on the device.
Upon synchronising with iTunes, the iPhone is checked to see whether the firmware has been modified. If it has, a clean version is installed.
This won't bother most people as they'll not have known, or wanted, to tinker about under the shiny hood, but it undoes changes that have unlocked or otherwise opened up the iPhone.
It appears that many, if not all, of the tools previously used to modify the iPhone — adding personal ring tones, for example — do still work, according to the iPhone Dev Wiki.
