CEO of Actimagine gives opinion on iPhone and competitors
The CEO of Actimagine, André Pagnac, has given his opinion on the iPhone, and what services other handset manufacturers should be looking at to compete. Here's a summary:
Though the iPhone is a well designed, high quality product, it won't dominate the market unchallenged. Its price means that its main competition will be high-end, high-value smartphones rather than mid-range fixed-phone products.
A study by ABI Research suggests that the market for smartphones should grow to 300 million by the end of the year, additionally with a forecast for 10 million iPhones to be sold in the same period.
This appetite among users for high-end products means that there's a huge market opportunity for smartphone manufacturers. Key services will be the delivery of high-quality video, video on demand, free TV channels, and user-generated content from sites such as YouTube.
Mobile software company Actimagine believe they are well placed to partner with handset manufacturers, offering technology such as Mobiclip video compression.
Mobiclip is a patented software video codec optimised for mobile platforms. Developed with a completely different algorithm from those used for other video codecs on the market, Mobiclip makes more efficient use of the CPU power, allowing the display of high quality video on any electronic devices, from QVGA to HD resolution.
