Dodgy AT&T tactics at work? Forcing accessories on customers
With so many iPhone accessories around now (most of them cases) and with the usual tactics that shop salespeople like to use, it's not too hard to believe that at least some AT&T Stores are near-forcing customers to buy a couple of accessories with their new iPhone.
Gizmodo has named and shamed (if that's possible) three stores. Allegedly, some stores are sealing the accessories with the iPhone's box, which means that they can then charge a 10% restocking fee for breaking the outer seal even if the iPhone box is still factory sealed.
Depending on how philosophical you are, it's really the fault of AT&T management, or the whole ethos of sales. A Gizmodo reader reported that, "A reader tells us if an AT&T rep doesn’t sell between $60-$65 worth of accessories for each phone sale and $20-$30 worth of features, he can be written up and terminated if sales don’t improve within 45 days."
Nice, huh?
The advice is to give AT&T Stores a wide berth and either go to an Apple Store, or order at the online Apple Store.
