European iPhone rumour: France to get iPhone via Orange
It's been a while since we've heard any rumours about who'll get the iPhone in Europe, but several sites are now propagating the tip-off that Orange may launch the iPhone at the end of September in France.
It'll come just after the Apple Expo in Paris, which runs from 25-29 September, if these reports are to be believed.
Orange (France Telecom) has neither confirmed nor denied the story — but then you wouldn't expect them to. Even if they had definitely NOT got the iPhone, it'd be a competitive disadvantage to reveal that to other mobile operators.
Forbes reports: "Orange may collaborate with media and electronics retailer Fnac, a unit of PPR, to boost its sales force and make up for the lack of Apple outlets in France."
How many handsets will be available? Up to 50,000, sources suggest.
The rumour concentrates on the French market, with no mention of when Germany or the UK - the other two markets believed to be getting the iPhone - might get it.
