Law may be on iPhone hackers' side
Despite various legal threats from AT&T's lawyers to those who purport to have unlocked the iPhone for use on any network, it may be that the law is on the side of the hackers.
Thanks to an exemption in the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), individual users are already allowed to unlock their own phones. However, this exemption probably doesn't extend to companies offering such a service, particularly if they're profiting from it.
Jonathan Kramer, founder of Kramer Telecom Law Firm in Los Angeles, said "There just isn't any case law in this area for us to figure out how it plays out."
Meanwhile, some offering solutions plan to continue as usual.
"Over the next few days…you will get what you are looking for," reads a message at UniquePhones' website.
