Some corporate apps working well on iPhone, or with minor tweaks. More coming?
It seems a number of people have been testing out their enterprise applications with the iPhone, and have been pleasantly surprised that they're working almost perfectly, or require only a few tweaks to make them function better under Safari.
Auto Warehousing Co's CIO Dale Franz has found that his VIPS application works, while business software makers such as NetSuite Inc and Salesforce.com Inc are marketing slightly modified applications to work on the iPhone.
Amusingly, some people couldn't get their apps to work using a Treo - oh well, whatcha gonna do?
Users said the iPhone's Web browser, known as Safari, is one of the most usable on a mobile phone, with better compatibility with many Web sites. They said the large touch-sensing screen on the iPhone -- which lets users pan around a Web page and zoom in with various finger gestures -- also makes it more practical to use the Web.
Proof, as if it were needed, that regardless of what some say, the iPhone can be every bit a business phone as the next, if people are prepared to ensure things work for it.
