Apple doesn't understand mobile phone market, says Austrian mobile provider
Austria's leading mobile phone provider, mobilkom, said that Apple doesn't understand the mobile phone market.
"Apple has a brilliant marketing machinery, its usability is also brilliant, but they still have to learn about telephones," said CEO Boris Nemsic in an interview with Austrian broadcaster ORF.
He criticised Steve Jobs' insistence that 3G would drain the iPhone's battery, saying that the likes of Nokia were perfectly capable of creating 3G phones with decent battery life.
Branding the iPhone "a nice toy for techies", he criticised the lack of UMTS in a device hailed as the ultimate mobile connection to the Internet.
"A telephone? Forget it, that is no phone, but (a gadget) that happens to have a phone function."
However, he'd be quite happy to work with Apple on securing a second-generation iPhone, though he said that exclusive deals with mobile phone operators was a bad idea.
