China telcos to fight for iPhone?
China is a massive market for the iPhone, so it's no surprise that both China Mobile and China Unicom, the two largest Chinese telecoms companies, are both keen to get their hands on it.
China Mobile has already announced that it's in talks with Apple to distribute the iPhone, and now Li Zhengmao, vice president of China Unicom, has made a similar statement.
Whether either or both companies are actually having talks with Apple isn't known, because Apple keeps very quiet about such matters, as we've already seen in the US and European launches.
We don't even know what Apple's timescale for introducing the iPhone into China is, though mid- to late 2008 would seem a fair guess.
