GarageBand lets you make your own custom ringtones
Great news for Mac owners who don't want to pay to use songs from the iTunes library as ringtones, or who want to get creative. GarageBand version 4.1.1 now has the ability to save up to 40 seconds' worth of ringtone;.
The beauty of this is that you can use any features currently in the software, from recording loops and tunes using the built-in and add-on sounds, to recording your own audio using a microphone or line input.
You can even use your own music — the only restriction is that you can't import protected songs that you've bought on iTunes, but that doesn't stop you using unprotected MP3 or AAC files that you've ripped from your own CDs.
Now you finally have the functionality that's been around on many other mobile phones for years. Apple, we salute you.
