Interesting German experiment on EGDE iPhone versus 3G Nokia E61i
Red Eye Chicago has published some interesting anecdotal research carried out in Germany, which shows that merely having 3G doesn't make a faster phone.
They've compared the loading times of several web sites on the iPhone running over EDGE with the Nokia E61i over 3G, and found that the iPhone is either faster, or only a little slower, than the Nokia.
I'd suggest that this proves more about the speed of the processor and browser than the network. Pit a theoretical 3G iPhone with the current first generation model, and I think 3G would have the edge (ahem).
