iPhone second only to BlackBerry in North America
The latest figures from Canalys suggest that the iPhone is the second best selling smartphone in North America, surpassed only by the BlackBerry. It takes 27% market share.
That's not bad going, given that the iPhone has only been available for a little over half the year, and that it's only available on one carrier in the United States.
Additionally, the BlackBerry is becoming a standard for business consumers, followed by Windows Mobile devices, and yet the iPhone is still challenging overall sales. Obviously strong consumer demand has helped.
The iPhone is also credited, at least in part, with bolstering the smartphone sector as a whole, which has expanded 180% since it launched.
And to anyone who still says that the iPhone isn't really a smartphone, hopefully the release of a decent developers kit from Apple early next year will quell that criticism.
