Apple silences UK partners over iPhone sales figures
In a move which can only lead to speculation that the iPhone really isn't doing well in the UK, Apple has told its partners — O2 and The Carphone Warehouse — that they are not to reveal sales figures for the iPhone to investors.
Tomorrow, Steve Jobs will likely announce how successful the iPhone has been outside the US, but that's expected to be a blanket figure rather than individual country figures. Mind you, France Telecom has been more forthcoming, so Europe's not completely silent.
A senior industry source told The Mail on Sunday newspaper, "The iPhone has not been a huge product for either O2 or Carphone. Particularly in the current market, no one wants to buy an expensive phone with a very expensive 18-month contract."
More evidence that Apple really hasn't cracked the idiosyncrasies of the European mobile market yet?
