China hosting 400,000 iPhones, China Mobile claims
According to figures from China Mobile, there could be as many as 400,000 unlocked iPhones being used in China.
The mobile carrier has reportedly detected this many iPhones being used on its network.
Talks between Apple and China Mobile broke down last month due to technological and revenue sharing issues. I wonder if the telecom company would have a change of heart based on these figures? Possibly not, given that they're keeping 100% of the revenue generated through use of the iPhone on their network, potentially on a less favourable data plan than Apple would like.
There's no guarantee that a significant proportion of people using unlocked iPhones in China would use a legitimate, network-locked handset if it were available.
Apple are the biggest losers from the current situation.
