iPhone Exchange support would be "important news for the platform"
A JupiterResearch analyst has said that, if Apple announce full support for Microsoft Exchange Server on the iPhone, it could lead to greater adoption of the phone in corporate settings.
"If Apple were to announce Exchange support on the iPhone next week, it will be important news for the platform," claimed Michael Gartenberg.
It's already expected that Apple will use this week's event to announce further applications for the iPhone, which could make it more friendly to enterprise users.
"If [as] part of the enterprise announcements next week, Apple announces it has licensed the ActiveSync/Exchange protocol from Microsoft, presumably this would mean that the iPhone would at some point sync directly with Exchange. Bottom line if this happens? Big win for Apple."
According to recent survey data from ChangeWave, the BlackBerry currently holds 73% of the corporate smartphone market, while the iPhone picks up just 5%. There's the potential for a shift in allegiance if Apple adds more features essential to business.
