O'Reilly offers up iPhone hacking book
It still surprises me that companies are allowed to profit from products which expressly encourage users to hack another company's product, but it seems that -- in the case of the iPhone -- there's no problem.
O'Reilly has offered up a book on developing applications for a jailbroken iPhone, and includes a chapter on "Breaking Into and Setting Up the iPhone".
It sounds as if most of the information is a compilation of that which is freely available on the web. The trouble with a book, quite apart from the risk of it being pulled off the shelves after threats from Apple's lawyers, is that it will go out of date far too quickly.
Buying a book on programming in C++ is one thing. Buying a book about the inner workings of a phone which is evolving incredibly quickly -- and with each firmware revision includes more attempts by Apple to stop hackers -- is another.
