Shock: MobileMe "not up to Apple's standards"

According to the head man himself, Mr Steve Jobs, MobileMe should not have been released when it was, and was "not up to Apple's standards". Not that the public has officially been told that, just Apple's staff.
MobileMe needed more testing to iron out the flaws, and it should have been rolled out slowly -- as in adding new features over time.
"It was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store," he says. "We all had more than enough to do, and MobileMe could have been delayed without consequence."
Those who seem to have suffered the most are existing dot Mac users, many of whom ended up losing access to email and other functionality, while at the same time not having a working version of the new system.
For the rest of us it's been frustrating, given that MobileMe was heralded as such an amazing bit of software, but it's not been a huge problem. It's certainly going to be a useful tool when all the bugs have been exterminated. Already, I'm loving the automatic calendar synchronisation, which is working pretty well for me across a couple of computers and the iPhone.
"The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services," Jobs says. "And learn we will. The vision of MobileMe is both exciting and ambitious, and we will press on to make it a service we are all proud of by the end of this year."
Eddy Cue has now been put in charge of all Apple's Internet-based services, including MobileMe, iTunes, and the App Store.
