iPhone Application Watch: Pocket Pirate, Mobile BC, Bugdom 2, Line Rider, Beavers!, Cybersaurus 3D, EveryTrail, Revolver, Private-I
Pocket Pirate
Launched to promote Cravendale Milk, and coinciding with Talk Like A Pirate Day today, Pocket Pirate puts eight buttons on your iPhone's screen, which when pressed speak a different pirate-y phrase. It's free, and there's a web application too.
Mobile BC
BlogCatalog has launched Mobile BC, a web-based application designed specifically for the iPhone.
It allows access to the BlogCatalog social network, plus the likes of Delicious, Digg, Facebook, Flickr, Last.fm, Multiply, MySpace, Sphinn, StumbleUpon, Twitter, and YouTube.
"Any network we add to the dashboard can be added to the mobile application so bloggers can keep up with discussions, groups, communities, and other social networks on their iPod Touch or iPhone," says Antony Berkman, president of BlogCatalog.com. "So rather than signing onto several networks, bloggers can leverage Mobile BC as their primary source, scan multiple networks, and then easily connect to other networks as needed."
Bugdom 2
Pangea Software (developer of Cro-Mag Rally) has announced that Bugdom 2 will be available this month, claiming it to be the first fully-interactive 3D action-adventure game for the iPhone.
"In Bugdom 2, players are taking on the role of Skip, a very enthusiastic grasshopper who battles roaches, flies, frogs, and other critters on a quest to regain his knapsack that was high-jacked by Bully Bee."
Well, there's only eleven days left of the month, so hopefully it's on its way soon. Pricing to be confirmed.
Line Rider
The web phenomenon may have passed over the past couple of years, but Line Rider iRide is now available to buy for the iPhone.
New features include a community where tracks can be saved, shared, and rated, plus Draw&Pan, Gravity Tilt and Night Rider functions. £1.79.
Beavers!
Beavers emulates the fairground classic "Whack A Mole" and uses the iPhone's touchscreen. Apparently, you mustn't touch the angry beavers, and get extra points for the "exceedingly rare" pink beaver. £1.19.
Cybersaurus 3D
Cybersaurus 3D is a 3D shooter adventure game featuring six planets in which you must try to destroy the robosaurs. £3.99.
EveryTrail
EveryTrail interfaces with the online travel community, using the iPhone's GPS features to track movements, take geo-tagged photos, make notes, and upload it to the web site. It's free, too.
Revolver
Revolver sounds like a really interesting puzzle game, where you have to collect balls of the same colour into separate wheels, hindered or helped by various boxes that change the balls' behaviour. £1.19.
Private-I
Private-I is a rather psychological tool designed to fool iPhone thieves into revealing their location to the owner.
It puts an icon on the screen labelled "PRIVATE", in the hope that the hapless thief taps it. When launched, the app sends an email to the owner letting them know where the phone is located, based on GPS or triangulation results. Of course, if the thief then manages to read that email, they may know they've been rumbled and delete the application. What would be more useful is some way of remotely tracking the device. $1. Not available in the UK yet.
