iPhone Application Watch: Flutter, iQualizer, iPedometer GPS, Wordsearch Unlimited, Network Utility, iMandelbrot, LondonCam, Nat Geo coming?
Flutter
The Flutter application allows the iPhone to be used to send picture messages and geo-tagged locations to any mobile phone. In other words, it's MMS - a feature which Apple still hasn't made available natively.
Sounds like a promising app from JuiceCaster that has had a few teething problems over launch weekend.
iQualizer
iQualizer is an interesting little app which visually represents whatever the iPhone's microphone picks up.
The application claims that you can't play music at the same time, though with most apps you just have to start the music first, then launch the app. In any case, unless you play music through the internal speakers or via a sound system, it's not going to be much use to this app.
Could provide a bit of fun. It's £1.19.
iPedometer GPS
Proving that it's a bit of a minefield when it comes to choosing the best application in a genre, here comes iPedometer GPS just a couple of days after iWalk.
This one has the advantage that it uses GPS and can also show you your direction of orientation / travel. It also keeps a workout log recording start time and duration, distance, and number of steps.
It'll be interesting to see which is the most accurate, though this version does seem to have a fuller feature set. Now, if it integrated with Google Maps...
Available for £1.19.
WordSearch Unlimited
WordSearch Unlimited is one of those apps which does exactly what it says -- generates random wordsearch grids in five different languages, including themed grids.
Just £1.19.
Network Utility
Network Utility is a great little app which any mobile systems administrator or webmaster will find useful. It allows various network tools to be executed, including Ping, Port Scan, GeoIP lookup, Whois query, geotargeting, and IP address information.
It is intentionally limited to what you might find on a desktop version, in order to reduce impact on the cellular network, but otherwise it does what it should.
Just 59p.
iMandelbrot
iMandelbrot is an application that's sure to challenge your iPhone's processor, because generating fractals is seriously intensive work. However, after a while, you can generate some decent patterns, though you might be better off searching the web for images that have already been created on much more powerful computers if you merely want them as a background image.
The app is free, though, so worth checking out.
LondonCam
At last, a UK-friendly traffic camera application in the form of LondonCam. View the image for over 80 still-image cameras dotted around the capital. £1.19.
National Geographic
There is a possibility that National Geographic will develop an iPhone application to allow users to access its content online, as the magazine looks to expand its online offerings.
