China could get its own version of the iPhone
I've mentioned in the past that China uses a different standard (TD-SCDMA) for its third-generation cellular networks to those of the US and Europe, and that China Mobile may have requested a version of the iPhone that didn't include existing 3G and Wi-Fi technology.
According to a report from Barclays Capital analyst Ben Reitzes, China could get its own version of the iPhone early next year. While Apple probably wouldn't design an iPhone with different technology for a small market, the fact is that if it can crack China, that's a huge number of potential customers.
The Chinese government has started handing out TD-SCDMA licences to mobile operators.
