iPhone is affecting mobile industry, satisfaction and desire high

The latest ChangeWave Alliance survey, conducted on 3,000 early adopters from July 18-20, suggests that the mobile industry is already being affected by the launch of the iPhone, with owners mainly satisfied, and a significant proportion of non-owners considering buying one.

The iPhone already has 1% market share, based on survey results, while Motorola continues to lose market share for the third consecutive month.

Second Office 2.0 Conference to experiment with iPhone collaboration

ITIRedux has announced that the second Office 2.0 Conference will take place in San Francisco from 5th-7th September 2007.

Each of the 500-750 delegates attending will receive an iPhone for the duration of the conference, making it one of the largest experiments for mobile and real-time collaboration ever attempted.

Etelos has developed exclusive applications for the event which will allow participants to wirelessly exchange contact information, schedule meetings, and provide real-time feedback during sessions. The venue will also provide a scalable Wi-Fi network offering access to any online application.

iPhone security may be compromised by issues in Safari web browser and email client

Brian Chess, Chief Scientist at Fortify Software, has written an interesting article focusing on some possible security vulnerabilities in the Safari browser and email client on the iPhone, which could lead to a malicious attack.

His well written article highlights these main vulnerabilities:

Email client doesn't display full URL

The built-in Mail application doesn't display the full URL that you're going to visit when you click on a link embedded in an email, so it would be possible for a phisher to send out spam that directs a user to a malicious, fake web site.

Safari browser only displays first part of URL

Only the first twenty or so characters of the URL are displayed, so it's easy to hide the true URL, which is often quite easy to spot as being fake.

iPhone may fuel demand for mobile video, research suggests

A recent study conducted by new media firm Interpret, the iPhone could be a catalyst for growth in the mobile video sector.

Already, 63% of iPhone users watch video on the device, compared to just 28% of regular cell phone owners.

The survey also shows that 51% of iPhone users have watched a YouTube video, 34% have watched the news, and 32% have watched a film trailer.

It appears that this has more to do with the phone than the user, as well, because prior to owning it, only 17% had watched YouTube clips, 21% a music video, 17% the news, and 15% a film trailer.

European mobile operators will agree to Apple's tough terms to get iPhone, analyst suggests

According to Shaw Wu, an analyst at American Technology Research, European mobile operators will agree to Apple's tough terms for securing rights to sell the iPhone, thanks to very encouraging early sales of the device in the US.

His sources claim that 25% of iPhone owners are switchers from other networks, which is a powerful statistic for European operators to take note of.

Survey: most mobile phone users primarily talk and text. iPhone to encourage mobile Internet?

Research from Interpublic Group's Initiative suggests that most mobile phone users primarily use their phones to make voice calls and send text messages.

Listening to music on a mobile phone is also becoming more popular, but activities such as surfing the Net and checking email are still minority activities.
