iPhone App Store now has 10,000 applications, half of them to-do lists

The iPhone App Store has hit a milestone with ten thousand applications now available to download.

The iPhone app monitoring site 148Apps has found that around a quarter of these (2,416) are free, while just over 3,500 cost 99 cents, and 1,433 cost $1.99. The average cost of applications is $3.12.

Over one-third are games related, though the analysis didn't break down how many to-do list applications there are in the store.

Ten thousand sounds like a fairly healthy number of applications at first glance, but you have to remember that there's a lot of duplication going on there, and for every gem discovered, there are countless apps that really aren't worth the download.

iPhone Application Watch: My Little Tank, Say Who

My Little Tank

Astraware continues to find high-quality games for the iPhone with the launch of Binoteq's "My Little Tank" arcade game.

The concept is simple -- destroy enemy tanks and bases, and protect your own.

There are 80 levels to try and get through over a range of detailed terrain. Power-ups enable your tank to get stronger and there are various missions to complete.

The game sits on the border between casual and arcade game. The tank can be controlled either by tapping the screen, using the accelerometer by tilting the iPhone, or selecting the virtual on-screen D-Pad.

Free Finetune iPhone app now available

Finetune, the personalized radio site, now has a free, fully integrated iPhone application available for download.

Finetune has a massive music catalogue and allows users to stream personalized stations as well as custom-made playlists.

The app allows new Finetune users to create playlists, but will also allow existing users to stream their previously compiled playlists while on the move.

iPhone Application Watch: noise.io, Glyph, Bullfrog Touch, iLaugh, iRingPro Ringers, Opera banned?

Noise.io, which we got all excited about in August but has been delayed for over two months, is finally available in the App Store.

It looks like those extra two months haven't been wasted, either, because there's a heck of a lot of functionality under the hood. iPhone Application Watch: Documents to Go, Snow Patrol Interactive Booklet, Sonos Controller, iSpeak

Documents To Go

There are reports that DataViz is working on bringing its Documents To Go software to the iPhone. This would (arguably) improve access to Microsoft Office documents, though from my experience of the software on a Palm device, it's not amazing. If you really need more access to MS documents while on the go, though, then it could be a solution.

Snow Patrol Interactive Booklet

The traditional album cover may be on its way out, but it could well be replaced by interactive album booklets like the Snow Patrol Interactive Booklet, a free application designed to be used with the band's "A Hundred Million Suns" album.

iPhone Application Watch: iTalk Recorder, BrightKite, 99Games' Chess, LivingSocial.com

iTalk Recorder

If you're looking for an audio recorder for the iPhone, then Griffin's iTalk Recorder could be for you.

The company says that this is "way more than a voice recorder", offering functionality such as variable record quality, one-button recording, pause/resume/append, and addition of text notes.

From the description, it doesn't sound as advanced as iProRecorder, but then again, how complicated does a digital dictaphone have to be? Best of all, it's free (for now, at least), so you've nothing to lose by grabbing it.
