Kiefer Sutherland wants an iPhone 3G, possibly

There's little denying that the photo is real, and though the story may be a little far-fetched, it has been a while since we've had any iPhone celebrity gossip so we're running with it.

Kiefer Sutherland and Siobhan Bonnouvrier popped in to a New York Apple Store last weekend and attempted to cajole a manager into getting them an iPhone 3G ahead of time. The trouble is, much as the manager would "gladly give a phone to one of The Lost Boys", there are none in stock yet.

Steve Jobs is oh so more powerful than Jack Bauer. Fact.

Of course, they could have just been enquiring about a new iMac.

Eddie Izzard uses iPhone in "Stripped" US tour

Eddie Izzard's unique brand of humour has been enhanced with the use of an iPhone. According to reports, he brings an iPhone to his current "Stripped" tour, in order to look up topics of interest live on stage and then apply his own brand of humour to the results.

"In the old days," he says, "and by the old days I mean two years ago, we'd think of something. How do people make jam? How do people make wine? Something you wanted to know and you'd just ask your friends and if your friends didn't know or anyone standing next to you didn't know, then you just gave up. But now, you pull out this thing, press a button, put in 'winemaking Wikipedia' and up comes how they make wine or jam or bread or the history of the Chaplin family or the history of the world or the Romans or the Greeks or the Etruscans."

It certainly gives Izzard a never-ending supply of topics to talk about on stage.

Apps and cloud software - the future of business accounting?

Intuit have just released the MyBizTracker App for the iPhone which promises to keep you in touch with your business accounts whilst on the go. It is always welcome to see a useful app, especially one that is free and does not rely on any pre-purchased software, but what exactly does this app do and how does it represent the developments being made in the world of business?

MyBizTracker is pretty much what the name suggests; an app which allows you to track your business accounts whilst you are away from the office. It records all your incoming and outgoing expenses in real time as well as recording any expenses you incur on business trips (such as meals and taxis).

The app is certainly very good at doing everything it claims to do through its intuitive and simple navigation. The beauty of it is that as long as you have an internet connection (and where doesn't these days?) it is almost as good as being at the office.

The app has a simple display showing your business' finances and whether you are in the red or the black in real time. This means that your financial information is always kept up-to-date and you don't have to worry about what is happening to your cash whilst away from the office.

What does the app say about the world of business?

Intuit's app is a very simple idea but very effective and can be seen as a logical extension to their existing QuickBooks Online accounting software. This employs cloud computing technology for business use, enhancing various aspects of basic financial operations.

Cloud software has been positioned as a prime area of growth for businesses over recent years with an increasing number of services transferring their software to this virtual realm. There are numerous benefits to this and with such strong popularity, similar approaches towards other areas of business are expected to characterise the future of company dealings.

What does the app offer?

As with any app, it is never enough to simply do what it claims and MyBizTrack is as user friendly and functional as it is effective. It is set out in line with HMRC requirements so you can be confident that it is going to be reliable and do more than simply display basic information.

If you have a business and find yourself away from the office wondering exactly what is going on whilst you are away this really is worth trying out. It is absolutely free and is a completely stand-alone piece of software. Intuit have a record of making some of the best accounting software available inside the office and with this app they have proved their ability to transfer these skills outside of the office too.

Alyssa Milano has an iPhone (oh, and a Zara bag)

Depending upon your focus ("real" fashion or tech fashion) you'll either be interested in Alyssa's left hand, or her right hand. Whereas one of our sisters might think the Zara bag Milano is carrying to be the highlight, we're convinced the iPhone is far more interesting.

Whether Alyssa Milano and an iPhone is in itself exciting is up to you. We're just saying it's another celeb with an iPhone. Of course she looks happy. It's touchscreen goodness, baby.

Stephen Fry wants an iPhone killer

Stephen Fry, great British comedian, actor, and wordsmith, has written an impressive blog post calling for the iPhone killers:

"All the big guns want an iPhone killer. Even I, mad for all things Apple as I am, want an iPhone killer. I want smart digital devices to be as good as mankind’s ingenuity can make them. I want us eternally to strive to improve and surprise. Bring on the iPhone killers. Bring them on."

Fry is obviously a smartphone addict — "I have never seen a SmartPhone I haven’t bought" — and takes a look at three devices which could be described as "iPhone killers":

"I really want you to believe that, Apple addict as I am, my eyes have always been open to the virtues of anything good, exciting, functional, elegant, pleasing to use. In fact the real precipitating reason for writing this is the fact that within three weeks I have bought/been sent, aside from my iPhone (which, yes, I dearly love), three soi-disant ‘iPhone killers’ - the HTC Touch, the Nokia E90 and the Sony Ericsson P1i. P1i. While I don’t intend fully to review, road-test or benchmark each device (as if I could, anyway), I do want to share my thoughts about where these devices appear to be going. (I’m not even going to mention outside these parentheses the LG Prada phone, that’s an iPhone beater in the same way Tim Henman is a Federer beater)."

He also picks on issues with the iPhone itself: only having server-side applications, lack of physical keyboard, poor Bluetooth implementation, downloadable ringtones, no mail attachment downloads.

Is the iPhone losing its coolness? Gets mixed up in politics

I struggle to file this one under "iPhone Celebrities", particularly because, as a Brit who doesn't understand US politics, the name means very little to me. Still, Machinist saw fit to report it as uncool. I guess the same would be true if David Cameron or Gordon Brown ended up sporting an iPhone over here.

Anyway, the picture is of presidential advisor Karl Rove showing White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten his iPhone.

Now is this better or worse than Lindsay Lohan having an iPhone?

Or just different.

Celeb watch: Heidi Klum, park, children, iPhone

I feel that it's a bit intrusive posting photos of Heidi and her children here, so the shot to the left is a cropped shot of one of her young children playing with the iPhone (after all, we're only really interested in the iPhone, eh?)

What's the betting that the iPhone gets dropped at some point over the coming days?

Celeb watch: Lindsay Lohan has an iPhone

It looks as if the iPhone will be the next must have celebrity tech gadget, with news that the fresh-out-of-rehab Lindsay Lohan has been spotted clutching Apple's expensive phone.

I'm not sure that this makes me want to own an iPhone any more, but don't be surprised to see more celebrities adding this high-tech fashion accessory over the coming weeks.

Presumably she got someone else to queue for her.
