T-Mobile's Wing: First US handset with WIndows Mobile 6 could contend for iPhone crown

T-Mobile has unveiled its Wing smart phone, claiming to be the first US mobile phone to feature Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 operating system. It's been developed by the Taiwan company High Tech Computer.

Its specifications bear a striking resemblance to the iPhone: GSM connectivity, Wi-Fi, 2 megapixel camera, 2.8 inch colour touchscreen, music and video playback, and Bluetooth.

Rumour: Verizon to launch branded LG KE850 as an iPhone rival

According to a USA Today report, Denny Strigl, CEO of Verizon, is confident that they can release a decent iPhone rival on their own network:

“Given Apple’s cult-like following, however, Verizon isn’t taking any chances. Strigl says Verizon is already working with a manufacturer — he declines to say which one — on an answer to the iPhone.”

Is Motorola's RAZR 2 a serious threat to the iPhone?

OK, let me lay my feelings on the table right from the outset. If a rehashed version of the RAZR is Ed Zander's idea of "wickedly cool" devices that will pose a marked threat to the iPhone, then I think he's sadly deluded.

Yes, even as a self-proclaimed Apple fanboy, I can see the potential of Motorola's RAZR 2, announced yesterday, but I don't think it's an iPhone killer.

Of course, it has the kind of features you'd expect from a modern, stylish phone: sleek combination of shiny metallic materials, big screen, CrystalTalk technology for clearer phone calls (when you actually use your phone for talking), access to digital music (even if it is via Windows Media Player 11), video, 2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, HTML web browser, and email.

55% of US consumers would buy a Google Phone - if it existed

A recent survey by Equs suggests that 55% of US consumers would buy a mobile phone created by either Google or Yahoo.

This displays a huge level of trust in the two search giants, despite the fact that they've never entered the mobile arena before. Perhaps this is the same trust placed upon Apple and the iPhone?

BlackBerry Curve 8300 to rival the iPhone?

RIM yesterday launched the BlackBerry Curve 8300, amidst the usual rumble of "iPhone killer" voices.

I must admit, it does look quite good - for a BlackBerry.

Its curved body is done out in liquid silver finish with chrome highlights, and it even has light-sensing abilities like the iPhone.

Microsoft introduce "Shift" Finger Interface - one finger less than an iPhone

Microsoft has shown that it's lagging behind the iPhone (even though it won't do very well) by developing an interface that you only need one finger to operate.

Their "Shift" Finger Interface may well have won a Best Paper Award at the Computer Human Interface Conference 2007, but it can't come close to Apple's elegant two-fingered solution to stylus-free interfaces.
